Chivda (Roasted Poha) Snack

Ingredients:

500gm thin poha (flattened rice)

1 cup peanuts

2tbsp sesame oil

salt to taste


For tadka:

3 tsp (refried gram) chana dal

3 tsp raisins

3 tsp dried coconut pieces

20-25 curry leaves

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

3-4 green chillies cut diagonally

a pinch of asafoetida 

Method:

In a deep dish, add 1.5 tbsp oil. Let it heat and add poha. In a low flame, keep stirring poha till it becomes crispy. This step takes a little while. Switch off the gas. In a separate pan, dry roast peanuts till the aroma comes out. Mix peanuts with poha. 

In the same pan in which peanuts were roasted, add the remaining oil and let it heat up. Add asafoetida, chana dal, and let it get light brown on a low flame stirring continuously. Add coconuts and stir for a few seconds, then add curry leaves, green chilies, raisins, turmeric powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir it well and switch off the gas. 

Add salt to poha- peanuts mixture and add this tadka to the poha and mix everything well. 

Crunchy, savory snack is ready. Store it in an air tight container after it cools down.
